Welcome to the Project!
If you are reading this before the party, get excited! We are putting together a special time capsule to be opened decades from now. If you are standing at the time capsule table right now, let's get started.
This activity is completely self-paced. Just grab a Ziploc bag, follow the steps below, and place your finished bag into the main capsule before you head home.
Trace Your Hand
Grab a piece of cardstock and a marker. Trace your hand directly onto the paper. For a fun family keepsake, parents and kids can trace their hands overlapping each other in different colors. Be sure to write your name and current age inside your handprint, then drop the paper into your baggie.
Measure Up
Kids grow up fast. Use the yarn and scissors provided to cut a piece of string that exactly matches your child's height today. Tie a little knot in the string, wrap it around the provided card with their name on it, and place it in the baggie. Parents, you can measure yourselves too if you want to prove you used to be taller.
Draw Your Future Self
Today we are celebrating America's 250th birthday. When this capsule is opened 25 years from now, you will get to see how you imagined future you. Draw yourself with the clothes, hair, job, hobby, or silly extra details you think you might have in 25 years. Have fun making it look as big and bold as you want.
The "Right Now" Micro-Survey
Grab a survey card from the table. We want to know exactly what life is like today. Answer the questions for your age group below.
For the Kids
- * What is your favorite song?
- * What is your favorite video game or toy right now?
- * Who is your best friend?
- * What do you want to be when you grow up?
For the Adults
- * What is your current favorite TV show?
- * What is the actual price of a gallon of gas or a local coffee this week?
- * Write one single word that describes this current year.
Message to the Future
What is your wish for the next 25 years?
On a blank card, write down your answer to one final question. It can be deeply profound and serious, or it can be about wanting flying cars, teleportation, or something else totally wild. Your choice!
Done? Seal it up!
Make sure your name is clearly written on the outside of your Ziploc bag. Zip it tight, and drop it into the main Time Capsule container on the table.
